Stormers FC participated in the 2019 Bangkok Supercup at the end of May with our U12 and U10 teams. It was held at the Football Association of Thailand, and featured 1200 players from 14 countries.
24 stormers players attended. For several players, this was their first time out of the country, and a chance to get their first passports. The travel to get there was an adventure in itself. We boarded a bus in Siem Reap which took us to the Poipet border. From there, we boarded another bus to our hotel in Bangkok. The whole team helped out in transporting and carrying our luggage and equipment.
The tournament itself was an important step in getting player exposure to both a tournament atmosphere, and working in an international setting with multi-national players. The team was very driven, and built progressive strength throughout the two days of playing in terms of teamwork, motivation, and good sportsmanship.
We have built up relations with several teams we met while there, and are keeping in contact for future opportunities to play in different locations / countries. We also would like to say thank you again to our generous sponsors, without whom the trip wouldn’t have been possible.
